Cleaning using the Footbed and Shoe Cleaner

Our Footbed and Shoe Cleaner helps maintain the magic of your Birkenstocks.

As you wear in your pair of Birkenstocks, the footbed and upper material may need cleaning at times. As Birkenstocks aren't designed to get saturated it's important to ensure you clean them carefully to ensure they can continue being worn. Our Footbed and Shoe cleaner is made to be gentle on your Birkenstocks, while the sponge is designed to absorb just the right amount of water to ensure you don't over saturate the shoes while cleaning.

Step 1: Open the straps or remove the laces.

Step 2: Have a bowl of lukewarm water ready, cold water works too.

Step 3: Saturate the sponge by placing it into the bowl, let the sponge naturally absorb the water. Once the sponge has absorbed the water, squeeze out the excess.

Step 4: Shake the Footbed and Shoe Cleaner. Once shaken, spray the sponge with the cleaner 3-4 times.

Step 5: Squeeze the sponge to massage the cleaner until suds form.

Step 6: Apply the suds generously to all areas that are needing a clean by dabbing the sponge along the surfaces.

Step 7: Before removing the foam with the sponge, 
rinse it in clean water, again squeezing out any excess.

Step 8: Remove the foam with the wet sponge by wiping it along the surface gently.

Step 9: Leave your Birkenstocks to dry in a ventilated space overnight. 
If they still feel damp to the touch, continue to let them dry.

Step 10: Once your Birkenstocks are dry, you can continue wearing you shoes, or if further cleaning is needed, repeat these steps. Please note that the footbeds may still have a smooth, darker appearance once cleaned, this is expected and is an indication of a worn in pair.

Step 11: For a deeper clean, you can use our Suede Brush to brush out the Footbed liner once completely dry. Please note that wear marks are still expected as the suede smoothens through friction caused by wearing them in.
